What is Wheat Ridge Speaks?
Many of us care about what happens in our community, but not everyone has the time to participate in person. Wheat Ridge Speaks (WRS) allows constituents to review and give input on Planning Commission and City Council actions without needing to attend public meetings.

On Wheat Ridge Speaks, you can review upcoming meeting agendas, read staff reports, and submit comments directly to decision makers.  Wheat Ridge Speaks does not replace the in-person public hearing, but augments the process by providing a convenient, online repository for your comments.

City Council meetings take place on Monday evenings, and their meeting agendas are posted the Friday before.  Usually, City Council has regular business meetings on the second and fourth Mondays of the month, and study sessions take place the first and third Mondays.  Planning Commission meetings take place on Thursday evenings, and their meeting agendas are typically posted about a week and a half in advance.

View the list of upcoming public meetings on the City Calendar, and learn more about public meetings.

Thank you for your participation!

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When are new items posted?

A: Agenda items are typically posted the Friday before the meeting date. For some types of property-specific public hearings, such as zone changes, the items will appear about two weeks in advance of the hearing date.

Q: Do I need an account to comment?
A: No, the public cannot create an account on Wheat Ridge Speaks and none is required to comment. This approach is intentional to ensure a lower barrier to entry.  To submit a comment: 1) On the homepage you can see which items are "open for comment." 2) Go to the page for the agenda item on which you want to comment. Here you can read the background information and sometimes watch a video. 3) Click "comment on this item" and a comment box will open. Complete the fields and submit.

Q: Why is there a cutoff time for online comments?
A:
The page for each item will indicate when the online comment period ends--this time is different for City Council and Planning Commission. The reason for ending online commenting early is to provide enough time for decision makers to read comments. If you have missed the comment period and would like to testify, you may pre-register to join the Zoom or you may join the meeting in person; learn more about these options on the City Calendar and the public meetings information page.

Q: What if I want to comment on something that's not on the agenda?

A: Regular business meetings include "Public's Right to Speak" whereby any member of the public can comment on any item not appearing on the agenda. This opportunity is not available for study sessions where comments are limited only to agenda items.
